Twenty years after the opening of Icebergs Dining Room and Bar at Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia, the firm Lazzarini Pickering Architetti was called upon to renew this city icon by legendary restaurateur Maurice Terzini. The restoration brought respectful changes to the original design, lightening it. The spectacular setting remains the star of the project, with restored “crystallized waves” that enhance the long corridor and create intimate dining areas. Materials and palette reflect the sea and the pool below, while new tables in glazed Tuscan ceramic add shades of turquoise, blue, and green, evoking the frothy waters, without table linens. At night, architectural lighting replaces the original chandeliers with elegant plays of light and shadow. The new Pacific Dining Room on the terrace, designed for events and suitable for all seasons with glass walls, offers a dedicated bar and a stunning view of the horizon.

Located in Rome’s Parioli/Trieste neighbourhood – an area renowned since the post-war period when the Roman cultural elite settled there – this 230-square-meter apartment, renovated by luoghiCOMUNI studio, sits directly opposite the entrance of historic Villa Ada. Surrounded by exclusive villas and green spaces, the apartment features contemporary and eclectic touches, inspired by French homes of the twentieth century. Designed to welcome and impress, the home is adorned with magnificent elegance, brought to life by refined materials, a keen selection of art pieces, and details with a sensual allure. The building’s architecture played a central role, providing its classic roots as the foundation for creating a warm, timeless space. Tall windows and wide spaces helped achieve a mood of large fireplaces, boiserie, and refined frames, creating a majestic, stately atmosphere.

This 350-square-meter period villa, arranged on four levels near a large park outside Milan, underwent a complete renovation by the MAC studio. The project centres on a balanced contrast between the early 20th-century language of the villa and contemporary additions. The building was elevated, internal slabs repositioned, and the staircase modified to recreate the original one. The conservative restoration of the exterior facade preserved its original image, while a newly built iron-and-glass conservatory opens to the garden, extending the living area. The interior style is minimal, with light colours and a tactile mood. In the garden, the lush existing trees have been preserved and integrated, while a new pool, surrounded by a wooden deck, introduces a minimal design element.

Born from the idea of transforming an early 20th-century building in the heart of Italy’s capital from an office complex into a hotel, the St. Martin Hotel is a project by Ceccaroli Architettura. The new intended use breathed life into a previously unused building in a crucial area of the city, significant for its visual identity. Meticulously curated, from the design of each piece of furniture to the study of the new facade, enhanced by a skilled lighting design, the St. Martin Hotel now features an external canopy that accentuates the seriality and rhythm of the exterior. The common areas and lobby are defined by transparency and permeability. Large windows and automatic glass sliding doors enable a seamless flow between the public exterior spaces and the hotel interior. The 134 rooms and 3 suites with private terraces, custom-designed, are unified by a theme celebrating Rome. Finally, the finishes enrich the structure, creating elegant, eclectic settings that flow harmoniously together.

Pininfarina Architecture is among the firms – alongside Eutropia Architettura, Weber Architects, and an interdisciplinary group including Paisà Landscape – tasked with the urban, architectural, and functional redevelopment of the former Manifattura Tabacchi complex in Turin. The project – which is part of the urban regeneration of the previous Regio Parco industrial district – will house multiple functions accessible to citizens. At the heart of the initiative are the new Archival and Cultural Centre, with document consultation rooms and a study centre, and the regeneration of existing industrial spaces to host a University Centre. Architecturally, the project aims to reinterpret the dialogue between the regular grid of the historic city and fields and the sinuous curves of the Po and Dora rivers. The austere form of Manifattura Tabacchi buildings is softened, opening the new Centre to the city and the dynamic flow of people along Via Regio Parco.

The “Loop House” renovation project by Unagru Architecture Urbanism is set in a typical three-story Edwardian family home. Originally featuring small, dark rooms with a central corridor, the renovation created vibrant interiors with bold use of colours and materials, rooms separated by portals, and abundant natural light. The rear was expanded with openings supported by slim columns and finished with white tiles, while the upper floor hosts two new bedrooms. A central core with stairs and services organizes a continuous flow of open spaces, with rich portals and sliding doors, transforming the home into a bright, playful sequence, ideal for everyday family life.
