Bumi Kinar : A Retreat in Harmony with Nature

Perched on the tranquil cliffs of Ubud, Bumi Kinar is an exclusive sanctuary designed to immerse guests in a world of serenity and rejuvenation. This secluded retreat features eight one-bedroom villas, two suites, and a clubhouse with a dining lounge, wellness spa, cliffside terrace, sunset verandah, and an infinity pool that seamlessly blends into the lush forest canopy.

The retreat’s design is deeply influenced by its breathtaking natural surroundings. Nestled on hilly terrain along the Petanu River, Bumi Kinar fosters an intimate dialogue between architecture and nature. A floating structural system minimises site disturbance, preserving the delicate ecosystem while enhancing airflow and regulating indoor temperatures. By elevating the structures, the design achieves a harmonious balance—both respecting and embracing the land’s natural contours.

At the heart of Bumi Kinar’s architectural language are soft, curving lines, inspired by the lotus leaf – a symbol of purification and enlightenment. This organic aesthetic extends to meandering pathways and an elliptical reflecting pond, encouraging moments of reflection and peace. The journey begins at Bumi Sekembang, a traditional verandah villa perched on higher ground, guiding visitors through a carefully orchestrated sequence of spaces—from a quiet gallery foyer and meditative courtyard to the breathtaking infinity pool and spa, nestled between the forested hillside and dramatic cliffs.

Sustainability is woven into every detail. Lava stone rooftops and green roofing provide natural insulation against Bali’s tropical heat, while overhanging canopies and recessed facades ensure ample shading. A 600-metre floating rampway doubles as a jogging track and elevated viewing deck, offering guests an immersive nature experience without disturbing the landscape.

By integrating existing mature trees and introducing native vegetation, Bumi Kinar not only preserves but enriches the site’s biodiversity – standing as a poetic retreat where architecture and nature exist in perfect harmony.
