INTERIOR & DÉCOR, but with a twist

Materiality in Motion: Claudia Allegra Interiors at The Willow

Step inside Residences 6A and 6B at The Willow, and you immediately sense a dialogue between architecture and interiors – a conversation orchestrated by Claudia Allegra Interiors that turns materiality into mood and detail into narrative. Nestled in Manhattan’s historic Gramercy neighborhood, these two residences showcase how thoughtful design can bridge the city’s classic architectural language with a modern, lived-in elegance.

Warm neutrals form the foundation, with beiges and taupes stretching across walls, floors, and furnishings. These muted tones are punctuated with deep burgundy, vibrant yellow, and verdant green, applied sparingly yet purposefully in wallpapers, fabrics, and artwork. The palette feels considered rather than decorative, layering color as a gentle accent rather than a statement, and giving each space a sense of quiet sophistication. Bronze metals appear throughout in tables, lighting, and accessories, echoing the exterior windows and creating a metallic thread that connects interior and façade. Sheer drapery softens the strong lines of the architecture, filtering light and framing views without competing with the building’s bold presence.

Custom details elevate the homes, transforming everyday moments into design experiences. Residence 6A introduces a scenic “Willow Trees” mural in the foyer, immediately establishing a sense of narrative and place. A linear white oak light fixture runs across the kitchen, sculptural forms punctuate the primary bedroom, and a wall-to-wall upholstered headboard turns the sleeping area into a tactile, enveloping retreat. Even the office space receives attention, with floating millwork shelves doubling as a desk, making functional spaces feel deliberate and elegant.

Residence 6B embraces playful utility. A custom millwork island drops into an upholstered banquette, turning the kitchen into a social center where dining, cooking, and conversation coexist effortlessly. Above it, organically distributed lighting brings rhythm and energy to the space. The children’s room features bespoke wallpaper populated with whimsical icons – a willow tree, a dachshund, a mermaid – that nod to the building’s unique themes while injecting personality into the home. Sculptural consoles, travertine surfaces, and carefully chosen rugs punctuate the spaces, reinforcing the layered, curated approach that defines Allegra’s work.

The layering of materials is central to the experience. Smooth bronze surfaces are paired with soft textiles, warm wood, and tactile rugs, producing interiors that are simultaneously luxurious and approachable. Each selection feels deliberate: a sconce, a console, a rug, a wall covering – nothing is superfluous, yet each piece contributes to the overall rhythm of the home. The result is a space that is cohesive yet full of surprises, structured yet fluid.

The design responds to the building and the city outside. Sheer curtains allow the signature arches to breathe, while the warm palette and layered textures soften the urban environment, creating an interior world that is both reflective of its surroundings and self-contained. Spaces feel generous without being ostentatious, curated without feeling staged, blending the precision of modern design with the warmth of lived-in homes.
