Navigating the Sea of Decarbonization with China Europe Carbon Neutral

The synergistic relationship between the European Union and China in combating climate change has historical roots and a promising future. In more recent times, to further intensify joint efforts between the two continents, Massimo Bagnasco, CEO of CNEUCN, along his contribution in EU-China Innovation Cooperation Task Force, introduced a cooperation ‘Platform’ concept which was envisioned as a tool to facilitate relationships and collaborations in urban development activities. Subsequently the EU-China Innovation Platform for Sustainable Urbanization officially launched in 2017 by the European Commission (DG RTD) as part of the Horizon 2020 program. This is the backdrop for China Europe Carbon Neutral (CNEUCN), a private company created specifically to advance the Platform’s objectives, engaging its original members and expanding the team with notable academics, official institutions, and industry experts. CNEUCN’s primary goal is to substantially support and contribute to China and Europe’s path toward decarbonization. Through projects involving reforestation, energy savings, and greenhouse gas emission reductions, entities can reach a zero-emissions status. However, achieving this requires coordination among organizations, businesses, universities, academics, and researchers – and it is precisely in this collaborative space that CNEUCN positions itself.

By effectively bringing together various entities, CNEUCN aims to act as a guide and pioneer for a more resilient and, above all, green future. Its commitment lies particularly in guiding and supporting companies through the complex regulatory landscape of sustainability – such as the Green Deal, Dual Carbon Goal, ESG, CBAM, and CSRD regulations – which have become increasingly stringent in China, especially post-pandemic as more attention has been focused on the quality of living and working environments. The company helps firms understand these regulations, comply with them, and ultimately become sustainability leaders. The challenges imposed by these regulations thus transform into opportunities, growth, and positive innovation. Through a range of customized services, companies can tap into the transformative potential of sustainability, embrace new and higher standards, and make a positive impact on the planet.

Research and technological development for reducing environmental impact are at the heart of CNEUCN. Based on this, the company has built a series of programs that can be tailored to individual businesses, always in alignment with the Green Deal and the Dual Carbon Strategy. Among the technologies that today not only help mitigate climate change but also improve the quality of the built environment are advanced renewable energy systems, energy-efficient building materials, and smart infrastructure solutions aimed at optimizing resource use and reducing waste. Ultimately, CNEUCN represents a unique business network founded on an in-depth knowledge of the sector, bringing together contributions from top global universities, specialized associations, leading multinationals, and providers of cutting-edge services and technologies.

Thanks to an internal team and partners across China and Europe, CNEUCN can offer efficient, competitive solutions from every perspective for decarbonization. These solutions include comprehensive services to promote products, materials, and technologies to companies, end users, and, in some cases, government bodies (B2B, B2C, B2G), facilitating contacts with Chinese companies for local partnerships and synergies. Assistance includes logistical support for specialized missions, trade fairs, and events, as well as strategic consulting to develop the best approach to the Chinese and Asian markets. Additionally, CNEUCN provides assistance for potential localization of business or production activities, directly or in collaboration with local partners. For professionals (architects, engineers, designers), it offers support in entering the market, action strategies, localization, and connecting with local opportunities and partners.

As a global network strongly connected to the design world, CNEUCN shares numerous affinities with its business partners, including Medelhan, a community where leading architects, designers, manufacturers, and investors from five continents meet to expand their business. This is also an innovative platform that connects market-makers in the sector through a business model based on valuable and trusted relationships. They are united in the creation of a broad network, a tailored offering for their members, and the ability to bridge gaps between different professional spheres, ensuring that innovative design ideas are realized with the best materials, craftsmanship, and a commitment to a greener future.
